Young Entrepreneur Starts Business to Help Hospitalized Children
It was after her fourth operation in June 2006 at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County that Sabrina Saenz decided she wanted to help other kids feel better during their hospital stay.
Born with a rare heart defect, Sabrina, 9, is familiar with the hospital and its not-so-fun atmosphere. She decided to turn her favorite hobby — beading jewelry — into a charity to make other children happy.
“I came up with it after I got out of the hospital because I felt like I wanted to make other kids happy,” Sabrina, a fourth grader at Arroyo Elementary, said. “And I was really good at jewelry so I decided to do it by making bracelets.”
Sabrina, with the help of her mother, Andrea, started the charity, Beading Hearts.
