Entrepreneur Creates Gourmet Chocolate Business with a Healthy Spin
The first time Kathy Moskal launched a business, she created a whole new product category.
Her company, Hue, manufactured hip alternatives to hosiery - colored tights, and knee-highs to wear with pants - and garmentos coined the term “fashion legwear.” The company’s sales reached $40 million, and Moskal made a bundle when she and a co-owner sold.
After a decade of retirement, Moskal started another business, Veré, and once again is creating something new: gourmet chocolate. Healthy gourmet chocolate.
The handmade treats contain so little sugar that a diabetic can eat them. A serving has less sugar than an apple, more fiber than a piece of whole wheat bread and more antioxidants than two pounds of broccoli.
All the products are made of dark chocolate with 75% cocoa content and are gluten-free. Most are lactose-free. Even better: studies show dark chocolate promotes lower blood pressure and reduced cholesterol.
Tasty treats for health-conscious chocoholics sounds like a slam dunk. But it turned out to be harder to get her products on store shelves than Moskal expected…
