Canadian Entrepreneur Organizes Classy Craft Fairs
Ladouceur, owner and president of Signatures Shows Ltd., has been holding craft and artisan fairs at the Congress Centre…25 years and counting. To suggest they’ve become somewhat of a holiday season staple in Ottawa would be an understatement: Each November some 25,000 shoppers flock to the show, snapping artisan-made jewelry, clothing, pottery, glass, leather and assorted other merchandise, the vast bulk of which eventually finds its way under an equal number of Christmas trees.
Like any entrepreneur with a quarter-century of experience under his belt, Ladouceur has developed and codified his own keys to success, none of which he’s shy about sharing. The most important thing, he suggests, is taking that initial leap of faith.
“I had my own glass-blowing studio, and I just thought I could do a better job running craft shows than the people who were managing them at the time. Looking back, there was a great deal of youthful naïveté. I thought I knew more than I did, but then, what 25-year-old doesn’t?”
